The person at the gate may be a customer
Someone could rent a unit, receive valid access and then try another customer’s unit once inside. Their entrance credentials would pass the gate check. Limiting their route and monitoring units helps your team notice activity outside the visit they’re entitled to make.
Monitor the place you need to protect
Door contacts report when monitored doors open. PIRs detect movement inside or outside units, depending on their placement. Your team can compare those events with customer visits and see which area needs attention. An entrance record alone cannot tell you that a neighbouring unit opened.
An opening and movement are different signals
A door contact tracks whether the monitored door is open or closed. A PIR detects movement within its coverage. Movement may occur without that door opening, which is why the two signals complement each other. Sensor placement and the contents of a unit affect coverage.
| Control or service | What it does |
|---|---|
| Entrance record | These credentials were used to enter the site. |
| Door contact | This monitored door opened or closed. |
| PIR movement sensor | Movement was detected within this sensor’s coverage. |
A normal visit should stay normal
During a visit, Bearbox temporarily disarms the relevant alarm areas on the customer’s route and their own unit. Customers can unload without setting off their own unit alarm, while other areas stay protected. Protection returns according to your site’s visit-end settings.
“We’ve never had a break-in.”
You may never have needed to investigate a break-in. It’s still useful to know what your team could see if a door opened unexpectedly. Which unit was affected? Who was visiting? Who received the alarm? Monitoring also helps with ordinary problems, such as a customer leaving a door open after unloading.
Detection needs a next step
An alarm is a reason to investigate, not proof of a crime. Review the unit, visit records and relevant camera footage. Decide who handles events during the day and after closing. Your team can respond itself or use an agreed monitoring service.
